At KDIH we design battlefield tours to lead the history buff into the field. Our guides are multilingual Europeans or have lived overseas for years. This helps us explain both sides of the story. It also helps us make Americans feel comfortable in Europe as we introduce them to European culture. Our tours are not an American style experience. We prefer discussing the day’s activities over a fine multi-course European dinner and we typically select highly-rated three-star non-chain hotels that are owned and operated by families. Our small group tour format offers these advantages: We maximize one-on-one time with our guides; We choose vehicles with a capacity of eight or nine people rather than a 30-passenger bus; and this smaller size provides flexibility to personalize the experience. On our 2024 Battle of the Bulge Tour included family members representing four soldiers who fought in the battle. Each group was able to visit key sites where their veteran served and fought.

Now for the fine print: The 5% discount is calculated off the base price of the tour. There is no discount granted on the single supplement. To obtain the St. Nicholas Day sale discount, participants must 1) complete a registration form on-line or via mail and 2) pay the $600 per person deposit by 11:59 EST on 12 December 2025. The discount will be deducted from the balance due. This offer cannot be combined with any other discount.

On our Rise and Fall of the Third Reich Tour we visited the remains of a concrete bunker in Muehldorf, Germany.

KDIH battlefield tours also include getting you into the field and, sometimes, participating in commemoration ceremonies.

After decades of personal battlefield tours, Randy Gaulke quit his job as a financial analyst in Manhattan and spent eight months in France in 2017-18 as a freelance guide during the World War I Centennial.

He subsequently founded Knee Deep Into History, with a philosophy of getting clients into the field on a small-group tour designed for the military history enthusiast. Equally important is the attempt to tell both sides of the story and to help Americans bridge cultures.
