“A celebration of who we are” – Greek Fest at Bay Street ready to deliver Hellenic spectacle

Sydney’s Brighton-Le-Sands will be transformed into a hub of Hellenism this Sunday in what will serve as a full celebration of the Greek community and our culture.

The Greek Fest at Bay Street, organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW and the Greek Festival of Sydney, will take over the seaside area on Sunday 16 November with numerous musicians, dance groups and plenty of food to showcase the culture.

“This festival is a celebration of who we are – a vibrant community built on culture, connection, and care for one another,” said Harry Danalis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, in a press release.

“The Greek Fest at Bay Street is not just for Greeks, but for everyone who wants to experience the warmth, energy, and hospitality that define our heritage.”

Stephen Kamper, Minister for Multiculturalism and Member for Rockdale, expressed great enthusiasm on behalf of the State government in supporting the festival that is being held in the heart of his electorate.

“Brighton-Le-Sands is filled with a large and vibrant Greek-Australian community, and the Greek Fest will celebrate these traditions while sharing them with families from across Sydney,” Kamper said.

Edward McDougall, Bayside Mayor, noted the imprint that the Greek community has left on the area, stressing events such as this serve as an appropriate celebration to them.

“We are rightly proud that Brighton-Le-Sands has been the centre of Greek hospitality in Sydney for generations,” McDougall said.

“Council continues to support this event, and it is wonderful to see this vibrant celebration of Greek food, culture, and entertainment back in Bayside – where it all began.”

The festival will be headlined by artist Maria Maroulis with other musicians to feature including Thanasi Pylarinos, Kosta Benetatos, Damascus Economou, DJ James Maestro, DJ Georgie D, Georgio Svolos and the band IHO NYX.

The day, which will be emceed by noted comedian Anthony Locascio, will also see dances performed by various groups, including the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Dancing Group, the Pontian Brotherhood “Pontoxenitieas” of NSW, the Cretan Association of Sydney & NSW, Kalymnian Association of NSW Dance Group and others.

“The Greek Festival at Bay St showcases the incredible local talent that makes our community so special,” said Nia Karteris, Chair of the Greek Festival of Sydney.

“It’s also about celebrating our youth – the future of our community – by giving them the opportunity to perform and share their passion for Greek culture.”
