Greek Festival of Sydney Returns in 2026 with Culture, Conversation and Celebration

The Greek Festival of Sydney is back for 2026, bringing the best in Greek arts, ideas, music, and community celebrations to Darling Harbour.

Now in its 44th year, the festival will kick off on Sunday, March 1, at Darling Harbour, attracting thousands of visitors to enjoy food, wine, arts, and gifts from Sydney’s vibrant Greek-Australian community. From thought-provoking theatre to lively parties, there’s something for everyone.

🎶 Music, Dance and Greek Glenti

The festival promises a day of celebration, ending with a free performance by internationally acclaimed Greek singer Ioulia Karapataki at Tumbalong Park, bringing the magic of Euro Summer to the harbour stage.

Visitors can expect traditional Greek music, dance performances, and the festive atmosphere of a true Greek glenti (party), showcasing the heart of Greek culture in Sydney.

🗣️ Ideas and Conversations

The 2026 program also highlights intellectual and cultural discussions, starting with a conversation between Greek economist, politician, and author Yanis Varoufakis and Greek-Australian journalist and academic Dr. Helen Vatsikopoulos.

On Friday, March 6, at the Teacher’s Federation Conference Centre, Varoufakis will explore his family’s legacy of resistance against oppressive regimes, as told in his recent book Raise Your Soul, connecting historical acts of defiance to the cultural and political landscape today.

😂 Comedy and Laughter

The festival’s Greek Australian Comedy Gala, Paravasis, returns for another year of laughter, hosted by beloved comedian Anthony Locascio.

On Sunday, March 8, the Sydney Comedy Store will feature top Greek-Australian stand-up talent, including:

• Peter Josip, Raw Comedy 2025 winner
• Mariah Nicholas and Josh Spyro, runners-up
• Melbourne favourites Montana Papadinis and Con Coutis

It promises sharp wit, big laughs, and a celebration of Greek-Australian humour.

🎤 Rebetiko and Musical Heritage

Later in the festival, music lovers can enjoy Elsa Mouratidou & Taxim Trio at the Factory Theatre in their show Untamed Voices, a tribute to the fearless women of rebetiko.

Their performance offers fresh interpretations of timeless Greek classics, highlighting the often-overlooked contributions of women to Greece’s musical heritage.
