Why truffles are rare in Poland:

• Climate: Poland is at the northern edge of natural truffle distribution. Cooler winters and variable summers limit yields.

• Soil requirements: Truffles need calcareous (lime-rich), well-drained soils, which exist only in certain regions.

• Habitat specificity: They grow underground (about 10-20 cm deep) in symbiosis with specific trees (oak, beech, hazel, hornbeam and sometimes pine or linden ). Even where conditions look right, truffles may not be present.

Known, but limited to natural occurrences have been reported in areas such as the Niecka Nidzianska, Bory Tucholskie, and Jura Krakowsko-Czestochowska regions.
