Greek Fest Brighton-Le-Sands 2025 Returns with Huge Crowds

Sydney’s Greek community came alive on November 16, 2025, as Greek Fest Brighton-Le-Sands 2025 transformed Bay Street into a sea of blue and white. Thousands gathered for this free, family-friendly event, marking the second year of its triumphant return to the suburb’s historic roots. Organized by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW (GOCNSW), the festival showcased Hellenic culture through music, dance, food, and community spirit steps from the beach.

The day kicked off at 11 am and ran until 10 pm. Attendees enjoyed non-stop entertainment on two stages. Traditional Greek cuisine filled the air with aromas of souvlaki, gyros, and loukoumades. Moreover, market stalls and children’s activities added to the festive atmosphere. This event highlighted the enduring strength of Sydney’s Greek diaspora, where over 2.6% of residents claim Greek ancestry.

Official Ceremony Honours Greek-Australian Heritage

GOCNSW President Harry Danalis opened the official proceedings. He called the turnout a “resounding success” and thanked the community for joining the celebration. Nia Karteris, Chair of the Greek Festival of Sydney, expressed deep emotion. She noted the thousands waving Greek flags and emphasized that “this festival doesn’t happen without you.”

Distinguished guests underscored the community’s integration. Consul General of Greece Georgios Skemperis praised Greek Australians as a “model of integration.” NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Stephen Kamper highlighted the importance of multi-generational participation. He observed four generations celebrating together. Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall affirmed the suburb’s pride in its vibrant Greek population.

Young talent shone brightly. Student Anja Ribbeck from the GOCNSW Afternoon School recited both national anthems. Her performance symbolized the next generation embracing Hellenic traditions.

Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Georgios Skemperis, commended the community for thriving in Australia while preserving its heritage:

“You are a model of integration — being both wonderful Australians and wonderful Greeks.”

NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Stephen Kamper highlighted the festival’s multi-generational impact:

“Four generations of Greeks are celebrating here today, showing the strength of the community’s cultural ties.”

Bayside Mayor Edward McDougall added:

“At Bayside Council, we are incredibly proud of our vibrant Greek community. This festival is the heart of Greek hospitality in Sydney.”

Representing the NSW Opposition Leader, MP Eleni Petinos said the festival showcased “why Australia is such a multicultural country.” Federal MPs Matt Thistlethwaite and Ash Ambihaipahar praised the festival as a celebration of Hellenic contributions and youth engagement.

Performances Bring Hellenic Culture to Life at Greek Fest Brighton-Le-Sands 2025

Cultural groups delivered captivating dances throughout the day. Highlights included the GOCNSW Greek Dancing School, Pontian Association of NSW “Pontoxeniteas,” Cretan Association of Sydney & NSW, and Kalymnian Association of NSW Dance Group. Additional performers featured the Cyprus Community of NSW, Kogarah School of Greek Dancing, and Hellenic Lyceum of Sydney.

DJs Georgie D and Maestro kept energy high. Thanasis Bouzouki Entertainment and Iho Nyx added musical flair. As evening fell, crowds grew for the headline act.
