Oakleigh Grammar students excel in Greek language competitions

Oakleigh Grammar’s students closed the year with impressive results in two Greek language competitions in a strong display of cultural and educational excellence.

The school’s students took part in the annual Australian Hellenic Memorial Student Competition and the 13th Greek Student Short Film Festival, recording strong results in both.

The former saw students from Years 5,6 and 7 participate and explore Greece’s role in World War II, focusing mostly historical events such as the Greek Campaign, the involvement of the ANZACs in Greece, and the Battle of Crete.

The award ceremony took place on Saturday 18 October at the Australian Hellenic Memorial, where Oakleigh Grammar students earned first and second Place in the Secondary Category, second place in the Primary Category, and nine Encouragement Awards.

In the Short Film festival, Year 8 students from the school submitted two entries in the Secondary School category and secured first and second place.

“Oakleigh Grammar warmly congratulates all students for their dedication, effort, and talent,” the school said in a press release.

“These achievements demonstrate that the Greek language and culture remain alive and continue to inspire new generations to carry forward the Hellenic tradition with love and pride in Australia.”
